The Bengaluru-headquartered tech services giant Wipro has invested in CloudKonx Security to upscale its security services. The move is aimed to meet the increasing demand from companies to protect their remote information management infrastructure.

Wipro stated in a press release that the deal will help companies to proactively protect and manage their hybrid and multi-cloud infrastructure by constantly detecting and remediating over-permissioned identities. The investment in the cloud security firm has been made from the $150 million Fund II of the company’s corporate investment arm, Wipro Ventures.

Sheetal Mehta, Chief Information Security Officer, Cybersecurity & Risk Services, Wipro, stated, “While adoption of private and public cloud is increasing, existing security solutions are inadequate to manage identities and resources across such a hybrid environment. With this partnership, Wipro has a first-mover advantage offering Identity Governance and secure Cloud Workloads for customers who are migrating and managing Hybrid Cloud infrastructures.”

The enterprises have been getting exposed new cybersecurity threats due to the rapid adoption of hybrid and multi-cloud infrastructure which is increasing the attack surface area. Wipro said it would offer an Access Governance for Hybrid Cloud “as-a-service” offering, powered by CloudKnox. The company would leverage its NextGen Cyber Defense Centers to deliver the service.

Wipro Ventures is managed by Biplab Adhya and Venu Pemmaraju and the firm has already invested in 16 early-to-mid-stage startups including 11 in the US, 4 in Israel and 1 in India. According to Wipro, more than 100 of its global customers have benefitted by deploying solutions from these portfolio companies.
