Tata Digital is set to launch an integrated ‘Super App’ by December or early next year which will combine the company’s consumer offering on a single platform.

Tata Digital, India’s oldest conglomerate Tata Group’s foray into the tech sector which was incorporated in March 2019 is ready to launch the Super App in direct competition against the rival businesses like Reliance and Amazon. Tata Digital operates ecommerce platform Tata CLiQ, online grocery store StarQuik and online electronics platform Croma.

The development of ‘Super App’ comes months after Reliance Jio’s $20 Bn fundraise from around 15 investors. The idea of the ‘Super App’, first originated in China, where the government’s ban on western apps such as Google, YouTube and Twitter, among others, led to the rise of homegrown alternatives.

With the help of various Jio Platforms, the company has expanded into sectors of ecommerce, healthcare, video conferencing, online grocery and others. While the other rivalry, Amazon has scaled up into online food delivery, online pharmacy, and grocery delivering services.

The new ‘Super App’ would help consumers avail a range of services, such as including food and grocery ordering, fashion and lifestyle, consumer electronics and consumer durables, insurance and financial services, education, healthcare and bill payments, said Natarajan Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Sons.
