Cabs On Strike 1 1280x720 1

After the lockdown was announced, both Uber and Ola had canceled their can services pan-India.

This canceling of all rides across India was necessary, since a) Every one has been asked to remain at home and b) Drivers and passengers, both had to be protected from the spread of the virus.

Now, after almost three weeks, both Uber and Ola have decided to start their services in some selected cities, and for only emergency medical cases.

Uber Essential Cab Service In 5 Cities
Uber India has announced that they are starting Uber Essential cab services in 5 cities.

These are: Mumbai, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Nashik and Mumbai.

As per Uber, they have taken police permission for these cities, and the drivers will be having special passes so that they are not stopped.

Uber Essential will take the riders only to the essential locations, which we are assuming are hospitals and medical stores.

Riders too need to carry their own passes and/or permission documents for enabling the trip.

Uber India said, “Given the anxieties and disruptions to our daily lives as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, staying indoors and safe is the need of the hour. But, we understand the need for essential travel, especially given the significant drop in public transportation options, to access critical places like hospitals, pharmacies etc.”

Ola Emergency Service Launched
Meanwhile Ola too has launched their Emergency Services in some selected cities.

Ola Emergency cab service will be available in Gurgaon, Bengaluru, Vizag, Bhubaneshwar, Nashik and Varanasi,

More cities will soon be added.

In Gurgaon, Ola has collaborated with 100 hospitals for this service, and the rides can only be taken to these hospitals.

As per Ola, masks are compulsory for the taking such emergency rides, and sanitizers will be available as well.

However, medical emergencies wherein ambulance is required, Ola cab service wont be applicable.

We will keep you updated, as more details come in.
