In the wake of Covid-19, consumers have now started considering hygiene as the top most priority while stepping out of their houses. To ensure safety of its customers, cab sharing firm, Ola has announced Rs 500 crore to be spent on various safety and hygiene initiative across the world within next one year.

The company was allowed to resume its operations in full swing post lockdown 4.0 and is currently servicing passengers in over 200 cities. It’s new initiative ‘Ride Safe India’ will cover all services offered by Ola including cabs, three-wheelers and two-wheelers.

Ola has set up about more than 500 fumigation centers throughout the country in various hotspots and airports to facilitate mandatory fumigation for all their vehicles every 2 days. This is an addition to the routine cleaning and sanitization of highly touched surfaces by the drivers after every ride.

A part of their focus on driver safety, they have initiated dedicated training modules and certification which also covers strict implication of temperature checks everyday and wearing of masks through selfie authentication mechanism.

Ola gave a statement saying, “From monitoring wellness of drivers to integration with the Arogya Setu app, technology innovations will help shape the new norm in the mobility industry. Ola has also introduced five layers of safety that include strictly adhering to steps that ensure the highest standards of safety and hygiene for every ride.”

The company spokesperson said that they believe in the fact that mobility is an essential component to restart the economy which has been badly affected by the pandemic. There is a dire need to come up with substantive action and sustained innovation to keep the country going. The commitment of Rs 500 crore will be beneficial to come up with new plans to ease the movement in post Covid world, he added.

The ride hailing firm stated earlier that they have recorded a decline of 95% during the lockdown period and though they have started their services, the volume is extremely low.
